About Us
At Honour Optometry, we aren’t your typical practice.
Our desire to open our own optometry store stems from our experience working within well-known corporate practices as well as smaller independent stores. After a combined 53 years of service, learnings and knowledge, the time came where we wanted to create our own optometry experience that not only rivalled the expertise and professionalism of existing businesses but also focused on a strong passion of ours – sustainability.
Get To Know The Team
Brendan Schelbach
Optometrist
With 16 years of professional practice, Brendan brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Honour Optometry.
The desire to become an optometrist arose from personal circumstances. Having experienced vision issues as an adolescent, a seed of fascination sprouted that led to his passion of understanding more about optometrics and helping those with vision problems.
Brendan is a firm believer that optometry is more than just treating patients’ eye problems but also about education about causes and preventative eye and ocular issues.
If you don’t see him in the store, locals will probably see him out running around Graceville trying to reach that local legend status on Strava!
Kay Keegan
Eyewear Stylist
Having entered into optics 37 years ago in a busy country practice in central Queensland, Kay has literally seen it all. With a traditional approach to personable service and quality care, Kay brings an ever valuable skill set to the practice.
Along with her passion for eye health, Kay is also the stylish one in the practice that loves seeking out unique and modern eyewear for patients. Kay is truly in her element educating clients on sustainable frames, whilst still ensuring an elegant and dashing look.
When she’s not seeking out the next fabulous sustainable frame range you might find her on a sewing machine refashioning op shop clothes or daydreaming of the pink Kombi van and ultimate European road trip.
Local, Quality Service
One of our priorities for the inception of our practice was finding a location where we could be one with the local community. When Brendan came across the vacant premise along Honour Avenue in Graceville, he immediately fell in love with it and knew this would be the start of our new dream.
Being a part of a community instils a sense of pride within us but also motivates us to ensure that we deliver the best possible service to our clientele. We aren’t in the business to rush through as many clients as possible but rather guarantee that each consultation is delivered in the most professional manner with a friendly, meaningful, and personable approach.
Sustainable Practice
One of the stark aspects that we noticed during our tenure with other practices was the lack of sustainable initiatives and products on offer. We believe the future is one where sustainability is rooted in the everyday workings of a business.
Following this philosophy, we have gone to great lengths to become one of Brisbane’s (and quite possibly Australia’s!) most sustainable optometrists. Each brand of stocked frames has been carefully selected to guarantee that they meet one of our three sustainability criteria meaning you have a wide selection of eyewear that’s not only high in quality but good for the planet too.
The layout of our store has also been a strong focus of ours. From the moment you walk in, we want you to feel the uniquely natural ambiance that we have strived to create. Afterall, what’s better than choosing your next pair of snazzy specs in a peaceful holistic environment?
